This piece uses a street recording I made while in China (the title gives the details) using a hand-held system. I took an 8 minute extract from this recording and processed it using channel-independent amplitude modulation. There is no editing in the source itself, but the shape of the modulation curves and the coincidence of left and right processing change over the course of the piece. I am fascinated by the degree to which such simple operations can so radically alter the perception of these everyday sounds.
